Ballet 2015-2016

We are so very excited for all that God has in store this year through the ballet department and through you! Last year, the program grew so very much and we were proud of each of you who performed in 100 Days to share the gospel through the arts! There are some wonderful plans ahead as we prepare for this season!

Welcome to the new school year, and new year of ballet! I hugely grateful and excited to be teaching what I am passionate about; glorifying our creator with dancing. It is such a wonderful opportunity to be reaching out to the community and I am really looking forward to the new adventure ahead. Molly Malone and I will be working together to share the gospel through the arts. We will be working on improving the strength of the dancers emotionally, physically and most importantly, spiritually. We hope that each of the dancers are as enthusiastic as us about this year of ballet, and hope that their growth will be evident at the end of each semester and year.

Each class will only allow 15 students into them, and we have had a great turnout so far (107 students have signed up for classes). This year, the ballet students will be involved in two big performances. The first is the all school Christmas pageant. It will incorporate all students, including the music students, drama students and ballet dancers. This will be held on Thursday 10th December in the school gymnasium.

The second production will be an all ballet show at the end of the school year, held at the Bingu Conference Center. Last years production done by Ms. Carrie and Ms. Emilie, was a great hit, so we will strive to maintain the excellent high standard this year.

As well as the two set performances, we will be looking out for opportunities for the more advanced classes to perform in the community. We believe that it is a hugely important part of spreading the gospel to places that might not have received in in a form of dance before. If anyone has any ideas, or hears of anything suitable, please feel free to mention it to us, so that we can look into it.

Please be aware that the semester ballet fee ($50) along with the performance fee ($15) will be charged to your child’s account and should be paid to the academy office as soon as possible. If your child’s ballet fee has not been paid by Monday 7th September they will not be allowed to take ballet classes, so please assure that it is paid.

Community ballet fee ($100) and performance fee ($15) must be paid by the end of the month.

Community ballet classes will be held on Fridays. This is an opportunity for non-ABC students to dance at ABC. Our community classes are split into three different grades. The first class is for 4&5 year olds at 2:30-3:00 on Friday. The second class is for 6-8 year olds at 3:00-4:00 on Friday afternoon and the third class is for 8+ year olds at 4:00-5:00 on Friday afternoons. These will be held in the ballet studio next to the huts on the ABC campus.

In order to keep the ballet classes professional, we do have rigid dress codes and class etiquette required, please take note and encourage and help your children to follow it. Thank you.

Dress Code:

  1. Neat, preferably black Leotard/swimsuit
  2. Black Skirt
  3. Black leggings or tights
  4. Ballet shoes (shoes will be provided as supplies last)

A proper ballet bun is required for all ballet classes.  Students that come with their hair down, ponytail only or something other than the required hair will not be able to participate in that day’s class.  Please make sure your child’s hair is secure in a bun on ballet days. Attendance is mandatory.

Regardless if your child forgot to put their hair up or did not bring their ballet kit. They are required to watch and take notes so they do not fall behind.

Regards to illness: your child is excused from classes if they were too sick to attend school or if they were taken home early.  If however the illness is not severe or contagious we would prefer they come and watch class. We require a note/email explaining the situation at least a day before if a conflict comes up and your child must miss a class.

If there is a scheduling conflict that needs to be discussed please notify us immediately. We want to encourage our students to be responsible and respectful to both their directors and their fellow dancers.

Please be aware that as the semester progresses certain grade levels will have required Saturday morning rehearsals.  More information regarding these rehearsals will be communicated as the semester unfolds. As the program grows so does your child’s knowledge and experience.

Please note that there will be important emails sent out to keep the ballet students and parents up to date with what is going on throughout the year. Please therefore make sure that you have given us your email addresses- if you have not, kindly give it to me at your child’s next class, or email the ballet address (ballet @ abcca.net) with the details.

With all that said, we hope that ballet class is an enjoyable part of your child’s day, and that they take away a great amount from each class. It is a wonderful sport for exercise, grace and beauty as well as discipline. We hope that each and every one of our dancers feels welcome and happy to be with us for ballet this year. If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to email ballet@abcca.net or come and see us in the ballet studio.
